Kickstarter Update 3: Historical Battles

Hello and welcome to our third Kickstarter update!

Historical Battles

Welcome to our third project update! Today we'll continue talking about the game modes for War of Rights, and that means it's time to talk about Historical Battles! And at the end of today's update we'll also be talking about a few Kickstarter campaigns we're backing and that could use some of your support.

Historical Battles

Our second game mode is Historical Battles. This behemoth of a game mode functions much like the smaller Skirmishes in the way of progression. They too include an offensive and defensive side based on the real battles fought during the American Civil War. For example, this means that the Confederates will be on the defensive at Antietam but on the offensive at Harper’s Ferry.



With several capture zones (all located at areas which saw lots of fighting such as Burnside Bridge, Dunker Church or Miller’s Cornfield) Historical Battles will feature a moving frontline directly connected to the capture areas. Once a certain area has been captured, the frontline will move to the next capture zone. The respawn locations will move in a similar fashion, although they will always be one capture area behind the frontline.



The last major thing about Historical Battles is the way the players are divided. In large scale battle maps such as Antietam there won’t just be the choice between two factions to join - there will actually be four as the two factions (Union and Confederacy) will consist of two corps each. Each corps functions as a “mini faction” of what you’re used to in the Skirmishes. A corps will have its own chain of command, its own regiments, its own designated capture/defensive points and its own ticket pool. This effectively means that several engagements can happen at the same time on the same map without any direct consequences between the two Union corps or two Confederate ones - until one of the ongoing engagements has come to an end by either having the last capture area captured or by depleting the attackers’ ticket pool before they are able to do so. Once settled, the two corps now out of points to capture or defend, will join the remaining two corps in a last match ending epic finale. Each joining corps will bring their remaining tickets with them to bolster the now total amount of tickets.
