We are the Ragged First. We are Lee's drunkest, fiercest, and rowdiest soldiers. The Yanks fear us. They know when we are coming for em' that means we ain't stoppin' till either we are all dead or till we took our objective. Lee knows he can count on us to take and hold a position. We are too damn stubborn to give up hard-fought ground. You are now one of us. What we expect is for you to make our forefathers of the Alamo, Goliad, Gonzalas, and San Jacinto proud. We as Texans have a reputation to uphold. Presidents of the United States who fought alongside our fathers in the Mexican Ameican War know just how fierce a fighting Texas man can get. Men, fighting for freedom is nothing new to us. As Texans our great-great-great-great grandfathers fought against the British to gain Independence. Only 25 years ago we fought for independence from Mexico. Now, we fight, for a third time, to gain independence from the very thing those before us fought to free us from, but that is nothing Texans are new to. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

History of 1st Texas (Ragged Old First) Company C (Palmer Guards):
Company C was formed by men from Harris County Texas in Richmond Virginia. Company C was then reformed into the 1st Texas Regiment in August of 1861. 1st Texas was then moved into the Texas Brigade in late October of that same year. The same brigade that was famously known as "Hood's Texans". The Regiment served under Generals Hood, J.B. Robertson, and John Gregg. 1st Texas Served in the Army of Northern Virginia from Seven Pines to Cold Harbor aside from when it was detached to General Longstreet at the battles of Suffolk, Chickamauga, and Knoxville. It was involved in the Petersburg siege north and south of the James River and later the Appomattox Campaign. At the battle of Sharpsburg, our company was almost completely wiped out. Our regiment was tasked with taking Miller's Corn Field, company C and 1st Texas pushed the Union troops back through the Cornfield again. The Texans attacked with particular ferocity because as they were called from their reserve position they were forced to interrupt the first hot breakfast they had had in days. 1st Texas had 477 effective in April 1862 and lost 186 of the 226 engaged at Sharpsburg, a casualty rate of 82.3% percent. This staggering casualty rate was the highest suffered by any regiment, North or South, on a single day, during the entire war.
